Table Tennis

Table Tennis at Gallions Mount started 8 years ago when our learning mentor Philippa began a lunchtime club. It became very popular very quickly meaning the school had to invest in new table tennis tables. It was soon after this that the knockout tournaments began.

Tournaments for lower key stage 2 and upper key stage 2 take place during Thursday lunchtimes and are supported by Philippa and our previous premises manager John Gillard. Often we have so many children interested in signing up for the tournaments that they run for almost 2 terms allowing all children that want to, to take part.

We have held many exciting finals that take place during our golden assemblies as a showcase of talent and a great opportunity for all children involved to promote our school values. The winner of the overall tournament receives a trophy that they can keep and the runners up are presented with a certificate.

Philippa and John recently took a group of children to Alexander McLeod school to participate in a tournament with other primary schools in the borough. All children that took part performed brilliantly and showed great sportsman/womanship. Throughout the tournaments all children are encouraged to show kindness and respect to each other and are reminded that these qualities are just as important as their table tennis skills.

We look forward to many more tournaments to come through the next school year.
