Safer Internet Day 2020

On Wednesday 12th February, Gallions Mount School will be celebrating Safer Internet Day.

All of our pupils will be learning more about the importance of online identity.

Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the Insafe network and is celebrated every year across Europe, and in other countries worldwide.

In the UK, Safer Internet Day is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre (www.saferinternetday.org.uk) and it is designed to empower young people to take control of their digital lives. The focus for 2020 is online identity and our pupils will be asked to consider whether they feel that along with their peers, they are truly free to be themselves online.

Our school will be participating alongside hundreds of other schools across the UK and students will be learning how to use the internet safely and positively.

We believe that internet safety education is crucial and it is important for you to be aware of the safety messages that your children receive in school, so that they can be reinforced at home. We would like to make you aware of some excellent, free resources that are available on our school website, including activities, conversation starters and information to aid discussions about how to navigate the issue of online identity in a digital age in a safe, responsible and respectful way; they can be found in the E-Safety area of our website, here.

As well as the resources we provide links to, we would also like to share a link to a parent/carer specific resource page provided by the UK Safer Internet Centre. Please use this resource to answer any questions you may have regarding keeping your children safe online, they also provide fun activities and resources.
